BEFORE THE REPAIR
Too often, the search for a collision repair shop occurs after the accident. Car accidents, even small ones, are traumatic. Dealing with the health and welfare of the people involved, not worrying about where to take your car should be top priority.
The best time to choose a repair shop is before you need one. Just as most people find a doctor before they get sick, so should they select a body shop before an accident occurs.
There are some basic guidelines that will help in your search for the right collision repair shop:
* Ask friends and family for recommendations before picking facilities. Always ask for details of their past experience. Check websites to see if they have the necessary equipment and facilities to handle you collision repair needs.
* Visit any prospective shop. Look for a clean and organized facility; ask to see vehicles they have just repaired; Look at their training and certification history such as factory and manufacture training, I-CAR training, and ASE certification.
* Ask about their Warrantee and how they handle complaints or problems. Everybody makes mistakes; it's the way problems are solved that demonstrates true character and ability of a shop to maintain a strong reputation.
Selecting a shop that is honest and dependable is probably the most important, don't automatically select the one with the lowest price. That "low price" may reflect something that's missing. That "something" either will show up on the final bill or result in inferior quality or incomplete repair. Remember "the bitterness of poor quality will last long after the low price is forgotten."
